Stouffville, ON – August 22, 2025
The Stayner Siskins kicked off their 2025-26 preseason campaign in impressive fashion with a 5–2 victory over the Georgina Ice on the road in Stouffville.
With a lineup that included 11 rookies, four second-year players, and five returning veterans, the Siskins showcased a promising mix of youth and experience in their first exhibition matchup of the year.
The opening period was a tightly contested affair. Troy Walker opened the scoring for Stayner just 3:39 into the game, converting a setup from Kayden Winch. Georgina responded midway through the frame to even the score at 1–1. Both teams exchanged minor penalties, while shots on goal slightly favored Stayner, 13–11.
The second period saw the game’s tempo shift dramatically as physical play escalated and penalties piled up. Stayner amassed 31 penalty minutes while Georgina accumulated 46. Despite the rough play, the Siskins took control of the game with a dominant offensive showing. Tait Lightheart scored unassisted at 9:32, followed by a quick strike from Justin Campbell, assisted by Luke Millsap and Troy Walker, less than a minute later. Georgina managed to pull one back to make it 3–2, but Stayner responded late in the period with a goal from Bryden Shank, assisted by Gunner Kirk and Millsap. The Siskins outshot the Ice 17–8 in the frame.
The third period mirrored the second in momentum, but with less penalty trouble. Stayner controlled the pace and continued to apply pressure, outshooting Georgina 14–6. Despite the strong offensive presence, Georgina’s goaltender stood tall, allowing just one more goal—Riley Pope found the back of the net at 11:07, with Jacob Graham picking up the assist.
Final shots on goal favored Stayner 44–25 in a game that highlighted the Siskins’ speed, skill, and depth across all lines.
The two teams will meet again on August 29th in Wasaga Beach, as the Siskins continue their preseason schedule.
