Siskins Soar to Victory in Game 2 Over Georgina Ice

The Stayner Siskins faced off against the Georgina Ice in the second game of their home-and-away exhibition series, looking to build on their 5-2 win in Game 1. Despite a shaky start, the Siskins powered through to claim a dominant 8-2 victory in Wasaga Beach on Friday night.

The game began with a bit of a shock for Stayner, as Georgina struck just 1:02 into the contest to take an early 1-0 lead. The Ice’s quick strike set the tone for an action-packed first period, with both teams generating multiple high-quality scoring chances. Siskins goaltender Aidan Jerry, who was solid between the pipes all night, stood tall and made a number of key stops to keep his team in the game.

Stayner responded in the 8th minute when Carter Hildebrandt found the back of the net with an assist from Riley Pope, leveling the score at 1-1. The offensive barrage continued as Caleb Tiffin-Seminara gave the Siskins a 2-1 lead at 13:29, assisted by Bryden Shank and Nathan Degazio. Just two minutes later, Gunner Kirk put Stayner up 3-1, scoring off a feed from Hildebrandt and Noah Prokopec. The first period would end with Stayner in control, leading 3-1, with shots tied at 17 apiece.

In the second period, the Siskins’ high-powered offense kept rolling. Ryan Russell opened the scoring for Stayner, increasing the lead to 4-1. However, Georgina wasn’t ready to back down and responded with a powerplay goal during a 5-on-3 advantage to narrow the gap to 4-2.

Midway through the period, Dayton Strongman took over in net for Stayner, replacing Jerry. Strongman, who has been impressing in the offseason, continued to show why he deserves a spot on the roster. He made several crucial saves to keep the Ice from gaining any further ground, preserving the Siskins’ lead. By the end of the game, Strongman’s performance earned him a spot on the team’s roster.

Stayner wasn’t done yet, though. Troy Walker added a goal at 13:58, assisted by Carson Marinelli and Kayden Winch, pushing the lead to 5-2. Riley Pope followed that up with an absolute highlight-reel goal, spinning around the net before blasting the puck past the Georgina goalie to make it 6-2. The Siskins outshot the Ice 12-7 in the second period, controlling the play and keeping the pressure on.

The third period saw Stayner add two more goals. Tristan MacIver potted a powerplay goal at 11:37, assisted by Prokopec, and Tiffin-Seminara completed his impressive performance with his second goal of the night at 16:53, with assists from Drew Acres and Tait Lightheart. Stayner edged Georgina 11-9 in shots during the final period, securing the 8-2 victory.

With the win, the Siskins now set their sights on the regular season opener on September 12th, when they travel to Penetang to face the Kings.
